James Teo - Bass
I'm 'Teo', the bass player...
When I first went to a Selium gig back in 2009, it was the final of Maidenhead Battle of the Bands and I remember thinking “It must be awesome to be in a band like this!” Almost a year later in 2010 Jack and Jonny asked me if I would like to play bass for Selium and of course I accepted the offer straight away. Only two band practices later I was playing my first gig! It was such a great experience and everyone in Selium was really supportive. Playing on stage with my friends was so fun and I can’t wait for the next one!
I’ve always had a passion for creating and playing music whether it’s chugging away on the bass, blasting out beats on the drums or even producing music on the computer. I’ve always felt like a musically creative person and being part of Selium is a great way to express that. Band practice is always great and there’s always a good vibe.
I love the diversity in music and enjoy everything from heavy metal and hip hop to drum n bass and dubstep. Some of my favourite artists at the moment include Phi Life Cypher, Two Steps From Hell, Secret and Whisper, Whitechapel, Excision, Funtcase, Gallows, Datsik, Afu-ra, Camo & Crooked, Taxman, Machine Head, Original Sin, Slayer and Metallica. One of my all time favourite bass players has to be Rob Trujillo the bassist of Metallica, he has such an awesome style, hopefully one day I’ll be as cool as him
In my spare time I like to go down the skate park with my friends and stomp some gnarly tricks on my scooter. I’m also pretty interested in dance so when I get a chance I learn some crazy manoeuvres such as balancing on one hand. Other than that I usually just meet up with my friends and chill.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Selium!
