Jack Flower - Lead Guitar
I'm Jack, lead guitarist...
I first took an interest in music when I saw the film School of Rock, and started playing the guitar when I was 11. My first guitar was a Squire Stratocaster, and getting it was a huge thrill back then – just sitting on my bed and playing all the open strings frantically as if I was at the O2 Arena with zillions of fans in the audience. I still think a great gig is one where the band are going mental like that, as well as interacting with the audience. Selium always try to make the crowd feel like part of the show - everyone puts a lot of hard work into our rehearsals and our performances, and everyone is passionate about the music.
Selium started when Jonny and I were sleeping round Harry’s house. We were messing about jamming around with a version of All the Small Things by Blink 182. We had a lot of fun, and we all get along well - so we decided to become a band. At first we didn’t have a name but one time Harry made up a terrible song on the guitar and the only lyrics he could come up with was one invented word: "Selium" which he sang over and over again! From then on we were called Selium.
The most memorable thing that has happened with Selium is when we got through to the Maidenhead BOTB finals. When they announced that we were through everyone went crazy and I felt so happy that that I head butted a few people. My favourite bands at the moment are: The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Feeder, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Blink 182. When I’m not rehearsing I am usually skating around with Jab, playing guitar, listening to music or on the computer.
