Harry Carman - Drums

I'm Harry, drummer par excellence...

What got me into drumming was watching this TV programme on CITV called “Ripley and Scuff”.  One of the puppet characters played the drums in a band. It looked like a lot of fun to me and so I decided to do the same (thank you CITV) and I have loved playing the drums ever since.  Like all drummers, I have energy to spare.

My musical tastes are pretty diverse.  My top fifty favourite bands today are: AC/DC, Alexisonfire, Apocalypitca, Atreyu, Attack Attack!, Avenged Sevenfold, Biffy Clyro, Black Stone Cherry, blink-182, Bowling For Soup, Boxcar Racer, Bullet For My Valentine, Coheed and Cambria, Dashboard Confessional, A Day to Remember, Egypt Central, Enter Shikari, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, Feeder, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Killswitch Engage, Kings of Leon, Lady GaGa, Lost Prophets, Mayday Parade, Muse, My Chemical Romance, N Dubz, Nickelback, Nirvana, Paramore, Pendulum, 44, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Reel Big Fish, Rise Against, Senses Fail, Slipknot, Sum 41, System of a Down, Tenacious D, Trivium, TRV$-DJAM, 30 Seconds to Mars – but not necessarily in that order.

I’m proud to say that I was there on the night when Selium was created.  It all started on 19th December at around midnight. Jack and Jonny were having a mega music sleepover round mine and we filmed ourselves doing an acoustic cover of “All the Small Things”. We put it on YouTube and, to our surprise people seemed really impressed.  Calling ourselves Selium, we played an instrumental piece at our school music competition.  Soon after, we were joined by Connor and Jab, et voila! Selium shifted into top gear.

Since then we’ve been rehearsing and song-writing pretty much non-stop.  We’re always working hard to polish our live performances.  At our gigs there’s always loads of energy in the room and we try hard to put on an entertaining show – live music is about watching a band as well as listening to them.

In our band we have a lot of fun.  Between rehearsals, we basically all muck about and have a laugh. We all wind each other up as much as we can.  We’re all really good friends so nothing’s taken very seriously.
We’ve come a long way on hard work - and more of it is needed to keep progressing.  Selium are getting more and more professional, and we aim to stay one step ahead of our rivals.
